POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Wellness Coach at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; builds relationships with and among members and program participants.

2. Plans, prepares, and performs new member equipment orientations and wellness coaching sessions;

educates members and guest on proper use of equipment and basic healthy lifestyles principles.

3. Supervises the wellness center, enforces proper wellness center etiquette, and ensures the maintenance and upkeep of the fitness area.

4. Maintains confidentiality of members’ and guests’ health information.

5. Understands different health needs; observes and adjusts approach to support all members’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.

6. Asks and answers questions and displays empathy in support of helping members build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals.

7. Provides excellent customer service.

8. Is responsible for minor decisions regarding routine problems where precedents have been established.

9. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

10. Attends all staff meetings and trainings as scheduled

11. All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Must be at least 18 years of age; high school diploma or GED required.

 Ability to interpret basic principles of health and wellness to others.

 At least one year of experience in the health and wellness field preferred.

 Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

 Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

 Strong communication skills required.

 Must have reliable transportation.

 CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certifications and Child Abuses Prevention, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne

Pathogens, Hazard Communication Awareness, and Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required within 30

days of hire.
