POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y on the Fly Leader at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a safe and quality experience to participants. The Y on the Fly Leader seeks to deliver a programming experience directly to communities outside of the Y’s current branches and will allow our YMCA to serve more neighborhoods and more youth than ever before.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Sets up, cleans up and maintains Y on the Fly equipment.

2. Properly supervises participants during programming hours to ensure all rules and policies are followed.

3. Supervises YMCA volunteers during events and assists volunteers as needed.

4. Ensures YMCA program standards are met, and all safety procedures are followed.

5. Drives the Y on the Fly truck on a regular basis.

6. Responds to all community or parent inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.

7. Completes daily checklist of all Y on the Fly equipment being used that day, which includes both before and after the program. Notifies supervisor immediately of any/all maintenance/safety issues.

8. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.

9. Communicates with other staff regarding bookings/events as needed

10. Applies all YMCA policies and procedures and exemplifies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.

11. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.

• Must have a valid driver’s license and pass a MVR check.

• Experience as a bus/moving truck driver is a plus.

• Ability to respond to emergency situations correctly; visual and auditory ability to identify and respond

to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.

• Enjoy working with children.

• Must be able to attend and complete all required trainings.

• Must have reliable transportation.

• Possess strong conflict management, decision making and communication skills.

• Capacity to be flexible and adjust to changing work environment.

• Previous experience working with diverse populations.

• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

• CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certifications and Child Abuses Prevention, Understanding Your Biases, AntiHarassment, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication Awareness, and Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required.
