Job Description:
As a Medical Assistant / Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in supporting healthcare providers and ensuring patients receive efficient, high-quality care. Your responsibilities will include preparing testing rooms, assisting with medical tests, and providing essential patient care. You will be involved in both clinical and administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the testing room with the proper tools and equipment for procedures.
- Walk patients through the process of needle insertion and blood sample collection.
- Label blood samples accurately for further analysis in medical laboratories.
- Clearly explain the blood-drawing process to patients and ensure their understanding.
- Reassure and calm patients who may be nervous or anxious about the procedure.
- Apply dressings to any wound caused by blood collection.
- Ensure proper patient identification, especially when working on hospital floors.
- Prepare patients for medical examinations and procedures.
- Take vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, etc.) and document patient medical histories.
- Assist healthcare providers with medical tests and examinations.
- Administer medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers.
- Schedule patient appointments and manage appointment logistics.
- Obtain blood samples, ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate patient records.
- Measure and record vital signs and document any changes or concerns.
Administrative Support Responsibilities:
- File, copy, and fax necessary documentation and patient records.
- Maintain organized records and assist with the management of patient files.
- Assist with typing and documentation for physicians as a scribe.
- Use computer systems to enter patient information and manage medical records.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in computer systems and medical software.
- Strong research skills for retrieving relevant information.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with patients and healthcare staff.
- Ability to stay organized and manage administrative tasks efficiently.
- Compassionate and calm demeanor when interacting with patients.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
